My little sis, Liz!

It all started about 2 years ago (someone correct me if I'm wrong) when her arm would all of a sudden turn purple, and was cold. We couldn't figure out what was going on. What was this? Why was it happening. It mostly happened when she was as work, but also on other occasions.

The arm discolouration then turned to left-side (of her body) numbness . Not consistently, but from time to time. WHAT WAS GOING ON?? She kept going back to her Dr., who kept running tests, but was still unable to figure out what the trigger was, and what was actually happening. Was  it a type of stroke, a type of a seizure? Finally the Dr. said she had a form of epilepsy and gave her Dilantin....that is when the real seizure's started. She began having Grand-Mal seizures. Each time after being rushed to the hospital, they would check her Dilantin levels  and each time they were low. She insisted that she had been taking her Dilantin. We weren't sure what was going on.

Since Liz's Dilantin levels were always so low, they decided to increase her dosage. They increased it so much that we walked around like a zombie for a good week, when she then went to emergency for feeling so awful. Apparently, she was in TOXIC SHOCK!! The Dr. who increase her Dilantin levels gave her a WAY too high dosage...more than any person should be taking. They decreased her levels.

All the while, she still keeps having seizures...time and time again. Grand-Mal seizures. Nothing is getting better (except no longer being in toxic shock). We are all super frustrated at this point and are not convinced that anyone is really taking this as seriously as they should. Why do they keep giving her a drug that isn't working? What if it's not epilepsy? What if it's a issue with her heart? We have learned that no one in city wants to second-guess Neurologists.  We feel stuck!

Finally, the Dr. agree that Dilantin is not doing the trick (finally!). Actually, what they discover is her body is metabolizing the drug WAY too fast...in and out. They give her a new drug to treat the epilepsy.

Guess what....SHE STILL HAD SEIZURES. Yes, they were Grand-Mal and this time lasting to up to 15 minutes!! Liz would have several of them back-to-back.  Last week she was rushed to the hospital after an episode, had a few more seizures in emergency (a total of 4 or 5 for that day), and the Dr. told her to go ahead and go home. She did. Surprise, surprise she had more seizures...was rushed to emergency again and this time they realize they need to keep her in the hospital to figure out what is happening!

THANK YOU!

Within 24 hours she had 18 seizures, plus the 4 or 5 more a couple days before. Our poor Lizzy! We love her so much and absolutely hate (that is not a word I use often, but it seems fitting) to see her go through this. We are HAPPY that she had been admitted into the hospital and feel optimistic that we are going to find some real answers!

Thank you for your prayers in her behalf! We all appreciate them.

We love you Lizzy poo-poo!
