Conference weekend is one of our favorite times of year! The anticipation of hearing what the prophet will say gets me so excited!! We have a prophet of God on the earth...today! Think about that...if Noah came to talk to us, or Adam, or Nephi...wouldn't we want to hear them speak?? Our Prophet today is Thomas S. Monson. He (as those who serve with him) tell us what the Lord wants us to hear. I know that I take that for granted all too often. Years ago Wes taught me the importance of preparing for Conference weekend and coming with a question - it will be answered. We always set that weekend aside to listen, feel the spirit, learn, and set new goals for our family.
We were thinking about ways we could help prepare Olivia, at the young age of 2. How can she prepare and be excited about conference?? We decided to put up pictures (the page from the previous conference ensign) of the prophet, apostles, and other general authorities just below our t.v. We reviewed some of the names with Olivia and told her that they were going to talk to us soon, and that we could see them on the t.v. I definitely know it helped!! As the speakers stood up, we got excited and Olivia recognized some of the names. I was also surprised at how quietly she sat during conference. If Olivia wasn't cuddling on the couch watching with us, she was playing quietly. It was really great.
As usual, we finished the weekend feeling filled, feeling inspired, feeling energized to do better. I was reminded of the importance of being a mother, teaching our children how to gain testimonies for themselves, I feel a greater desire to make our home a sacred place - time with our family is sacred time, it caused me to look at my life and reflect if I am really spending time doing those "best" things, things that will benefit me, my husband, and my children for eternity. I love the Lord, I love our Prophet, and I love the gospel.
