The next 4 years

To be honest, I didn't follow the US election very closely. I would listen to what people had to say about it, have certain opinions about certain issues, but haven't been overly vocal about it.

What I do know is that I have a few friends who were extremely happy that Obama won, and a lot of friends who were deeply saddened and worried and scared...scared for the future of their country and the future of the world.

For anyone who has served a mission, would probably agree with me that Mission Presidents are absolutely amazing people...and, we are almost certain that they will be  Apostles one day! ...at least, that's how I feel about my two mission Presidents.

My Mission President was Robert Bauman. The day after the election, his sweet wife, Colleen, posted this letter that he had written to his family....

With the election over, it is nice to get back emotionally to the routine we actually control. In the aftermath of the election, I am grateful for all that has occurred this year. The Church has had unprecedented positive exposure which will help many in time find the restored gospel. I am also grateful for the Romney family who stepped up to a formidable effort. Mitt Romney showed class last night in his remarks.

What does this all mean to us? We are in a battle for our gospel centered values and many people, in and out of the church, feel the same. Fifty percent of the country voted for similar values.
At the same time the missionary force of the Church is expanding in huge numbers, Maine and Maryland voted to legalize same sex marriage. At the same time the church was getting world- wide attention,

Washington and Colorado was working on legalizing Marijuana for recreational purposes which successfully was voted on last night. These are interesting times.

My resolve…to do my best each day and stay true to that which I know! We need to support each other and teach our children and grandchildren, faith, hope and love and loyalty to the Church and gospel.

I am so grateful for your example of continued faith and testimony. Let’s keep doing what is right and if we do, the Lord has promised “safe passage” in the years ahead.
